Biography :

Prof. Dr. Thomas Klaholz is a German scholar affiliated with the Institute of Archaeology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Bonn. His academic work is centered on medieval and early historical archaeology, with particular emphasis on building history, settlement development, and ecclesiastical architecture in Central Europe. He studied archaeology, medieval and modern history, heritage conservation, and related historical disciplines. He completed his Magister degree in 1992 and later earned his doctorate in 2000, focusing on the archaeological and historical development of Hilpoltstein in Bavaria. Before and alongside his academic career, Klaholz worked extensively in cultural heritage management and field archaeology, including: Museum development projects in Hilpoltstein (1990s) Large-scale excavation work in Bavaria (including Burg Neideck) Research excavations at UNESCO-related sites such as the monastery of Lorsch Studies on early medieval settlement history in the Rhine–Ruhr region From the early 2000s, he held roles in academic research institutions and public heritage authorities, including leadership positions in archaeological documentation and monument protection. At the University of Bonn, he has been active in teaching since the late 2000s, contributing to courses in medieval archaeology and historical building research.
