Biography :
Anne-Marie Lambeir is a Belgian biochemist and enzymologist affiliated with the University of Antwerp. She serves as an emeritus professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and has built an international reputation for her expertise in enzymology, particularly the study of peptidases and their roles in human physiology and disease. Throughout her academic career, Lambeir has focused on the biochemical characterization of enzymes, enzyme kinetics, protein engineering, and structure-based drug development. Her research has investigated enzymes such as prolyl oligopeptidase, carboxypeptidase M, dipeptidyl peptidases, and other proteolytic enzymes involved in neurodegenerative diseases, inflammation, metabolism, thrombosis, and cardiovascular disorders. She has contributed to numerous multidisciplinary research projects aimed at developing novel therapeutic strategies, including enzyme inhibitors for neurodegenerative diseases, acute ischemic stroke, inflammatory disorders, and metabolic diseases. Her work combines enzymology, molecular biology, protein chemistry, and medicinal chemistry to better understand enzyme function and identify new drug targets. In addition to her research achievements, Lambeir is recognized for teaching and mentoring in enzyme kinetics and has collaborated extensively with academic researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology organizations. Her expertise has made her a sought-after collaborator in projects involving protein engineering, enzyme design, and drug discovery. She continues to contribute to scientific research as an emeritus scholar and co-author of publications in biochemical and medicinal chemistry journals.
